May Student of the Month: Karthik Midde

Hi, my name is Karthik Midde, and I am a 3rd year Global Disease Biology major. I transferred into the major in my second year as I was attracted to the focus on studying health in a global context. I've truly come to appreciate the amount of flexibility we have within the major to tailor to our interests, from the restricted electives to the practicum project. Through my coursework so far, I've been able to obtain a better understanding of the inequalities that exist in healthcare systems around the world, while also gaining a solid foundation in core biological concepts through the One Health approach. I've additionally been an active member of the Global Medical Brigades club on campus since I was a freshman, where I've been able to volunteer in several countries and contribute towards building sustainable health systems in underserved communities. Both the GDB major and my club activities have significantly ignited my passion for global health and assisting those with little to no access to healthcare, which I further hope to pursue after graduation.
