Preparing for Finals Week! An Academic and Wellness Resource Guide

Finals week can be a stressful time for many students, and your GDB Advising team is here to support you! Below, you can find lists and links to helpful resources about academic policies and wellness resources.

For reference, you can find the Winter Quarter Dates and Deadlines from the University Registrar here

Late Schedule Adjustment Actions from the University Registrar:

  • Switching sections within a course on or before the last day of instruction after the add/drop deadline requires an Undergraduate Course Change form
    • You must obtain instructor permission and the completed form has to be submitted to the Office of the University Registrar
    • You will be billed a $3 late schedule adjustment fee after the switch is approved
  • Adding a course after the PTA deadline or dropping a course after the PTD deadline: you must submit a Retroactive Change Petition
  • Opting for P/NP grading of a letter-graded course after the 40th day of instruction requires approval from the CAES Dean’s Office
  • If you have questions about making schedule adjustments after the last day of instruction, see Retroactive Actions

Global Disease Biology Schedule Adjustment Policies and Information

  • **PLEASE NOTE: If you need a PTD, GDB’s advising team can provide guidance, but the CAES Dean’s office is ultimately the best place to go since they manage and issue PTDs. You will also need to meet with a Dean’s Office Advisor at the CAES Advising office if you are looking for a PTD. Follow this link to schedule an advising appointment with CAES. Please note that if you’re currently looking for a PTD, due to the tight turnaround time, a late drop created now might not be processed by the deadline.
  • Need to repeat a course? See GDB Advising’s Guide to Repeating a Course
    • Important notes from the guide:
      • The only courses eligible for repeat:
        • Received a D+ or below (most courses)
        • Courses for ELWR: C- or below
        • Courses notated as ‘Not Passed’
      • If you will need to repeat a course, reach out to GDB Advising as soon as possible!
      • Your most recent attempt at a course is the one that will count towards your GPA, even if it is a lower grade than your first attempt
      • Check out these helpful Campus Resources
  • The Pass/No Pass deadline has passed (40th day of instruction, March 4th), but for future reference, GDB Major Requirements are NOT eligible for Pass/No Pass
  • If you need to make an appointment with Academic Advisor Grace, go to appointments.ucdavis.edu, click “Get Scheduled”, select “Plant Pathology, Nematology and Entomology Advising Center”, select “Global Disease Biology”, enter your contact info, and select an appointment. General studying/wellness tips:

  • Take intentional breaks
    • Take a walk, have a meal, or do something that actually helps you reset and recharge before you jump back into studying
  • Get adequate sleep
    • We’ve all had to pull our fair share of all-nighters, and it’s understandable if it can’t be avoided- but do your best to at least sleep well the nights before and after the all-nighter to give your brain the rest that it needs!
  • Find a study space that’s conducive for studying
    • Everyone works best in different environments, and finding a good study environment is key to doing quality studying. Find out what works best for you; do you prefer background noise or does a quiet environment make you the most focused? Do you prefer studying with others or by yourself? Asking yourself these questions can help determine the right study environment for you.
