May Alum Spotlight

May Alumni Spotlight: Lucia Liu

Hello fellow aggies! My name is Lucia, and I am from South San Francisco. I’m a proud GDB alumna currently pursuing a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program in Clovis (Central California), with a growing passion for Family Medicine. Back when I was in UC Davis, I loved volunteering in service and community outreach through clubs like the American Red Cross, as well as the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. I also participated in Medical Campaign in Peru, where I helped provide basic medical screenings such as blood pressure and glucose checks and assisted with antibiotic distribution. These hands-on experiences, along with learning about epidemiology and global health through GDB, helped me understand how prevention, access to care, and community-based medicine play a critical role in medicine, especially in rural and underserved populations.

GDB gave me a broad foundation that continues to shape how I approach medicine today. After graduation, I worked as a medical scribe at both UCSF and an urgent care clinic, which allowed me to see how family medicine and emergency medicine often overlap to meet patients where they are. I also served as a Resource Coordinator in UCSF’s Case Management Department, where I learned about patient transport, referrals, and post-hospital care, and trained as an EMT before starting medical school. Together, these experiences taught me how healthcare teams work collaboratively to advocate for patients. GDB means so much to me, as it allowed me to explore medicine through a global, biological, and social lens, and that perspective continues to help me become a more thoughtful, preventative, and compassionate physician-in-training.

If you'd like to reach, please feel free to email me at ([email protected]), and I'd love to chat! Y'all got this! Good luck!
