Exploring GDB Through Campus Events
As GDB students, you’re encouraged to dive into the many dimensions of One Health to better understand the bigger picture of health and disease. A fantastic way to do this is by checking out campus events that highlight different perspectives and disciplines within One Health. To help you get started, I’ve rounded up some exciting events on campus that are definitely worth exploring!
Environmental & One Health Connections
UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden Talks/Walks
On occasion, the arboretum hosts guided walks or talks focused on biodiversity, climate change, and ecology. Our students can explore this resource as a way to understand environmental health on a deeper level and how that connects to vector-borne diseases and other aspects of One Health. https://arboretum.ucdavis.edu/apg-events.
- UC Davis Environmental Policy Symposium
This event is usually held during Spring Quarter and features a dynamic series of 20-minute presentations delivered by passionate students working at the forefront of environmental science and policy. https://environment.ucdavis.edu/events/uc-davis-environmental-policy-symposium.
Bohart Museum of Entomology Events
The Bohart Museum often hosts open houses showcasing insect collections where our students can learn more about the entomology side of health and disease (mosquitoes, ticks, vectors of disease). https://bohart.ucdavis.edu/weekend-events.
Science & Research Events
Genome Center Seminars
The Genome Center hosts many seminars and focus groups throughout the year that highlight cutting-edge genetics research, often with direct ties to infectious disease. https://genomecenter.ucdavis.edu/events.
Plant Pathology / Entomology Seminar Series
The PLP and ENT seminar series are a great way to engage with other departments that are closely linked to GDB and One Health. We always spotlight these series in our GDB weekly newsletter!
Vet Med Seminars
The School of Veterinary Medicine hosts many events throughout the year such as open-houses, seminars, conferences, and club introductions. Getting involved with the Vet Med department opens so many doors for our students who are interested in animals, zoonotic disease research, epidemiology, and food safety. https://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/events.
Public Health & Global Health
Global Learning Fair
Hosted by the Global Learning Hub, the fair consists of in-person global leadership opportunities, study abroad programs, global internships, post-graduate global opportunities, funding for global learning programs and more. This year, it's on October 9, 2025, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. https://globallearning.ucdavis.edu/events/global-learning-fair.
One Health Day (Nov 3rd)
This event will showcase projects that demonstrate One Health’s collaborative approach to addressing critical global health challenges. https://www.ucdavis.edu/one-health/join-us-global-one-health-day.
Career & Academic Opportunities
Internship and Career Center Events
The ICC hosts many events throughout the year that can help our students explore careers and learn how to find potential jobs and communicate with employers. They host workshops, employer information sessions, and career fairs. https://careercenter.ucdavis.edu/career-center-services/events-and-workshops.
Library Research Workshops
The library offers many workshops that can be very useful for our students such as learning how to find books and research articles and how to manage data. They also offer sessions on PubMed searching, data management, and Zotero tutorials which are very practical for disease biology students. https://library.ucdavis.edu/events-and-workshops/workshop-descriptions/.
I hope you all have fun exploring these resources and expanding your knowledge as a GDB student!
