May Student of the Month: Gio Bertero
My name is Gio, I am a transfer student from CCSF and am currently in my third year at UC Davis. I was originally a Biotechnology Major, but after taking Disease and Society I decided to change my major to Global Disease Biology. I am currently working towards getting a minor in Public Health.
GDB as a major is really special to me; the flexibility of GDB’s restrictive electives made switching majors a smooth process. It also helped me free up the space needed to pursue a Public Health minor. GDB exposed me to human health, which I became fascinated with, especially the immune system. The GDB practicum requirement pushed me to reach out to labs and start working on undergraduate research projects. Having undergraduate research experience is especially important to me since, after graduating in the spring, I plan on looking for a job at a wet lab.
