October Student of the Month: Lydia Nguyen
Hello everyone! My name is Lydia Nguyen and I am currently a 4th-year Global Disease Biology major from San Jose, CA. When I first entered UC Davis, I was an NPB major, but I eventually switched to GDB during my second year after learning about the One Health Model in Dr. Sara Dye’s SAS13 course. The One Health Model continues to kindle my interest in the interdisciplinary approach to human, animal, and the environment, applying this perspective to medicine and community health. This interest has led me to pursue my position at the Knights Landing One Health Center's Hypertension & Case Management committee, as well as my role as a recruiter for the ASPIRE Study at UCD Health. Both of these experiences have challenged me to ask myself, “Who should be the stakeholders in this issue?”–a core One Health concept that I learned in PMI129Y.
At the moment, I am considering a future career in both social work and medicine, and I hope to further immerse myself in both fields after graduation. Nevertheless, I am incredibly grateful for the education, experiences, and perspective that GDB has given me!
