February Student of the Month: J'adore Bailey

"Hi everyone! My name is J’adore Bailey, and I am a fourth-year Global Disease Biology (GDB) student at UC Davis from Los Angeles, CA. Since transferring to Davis last year, my journey in the GDB program has been driven by my passion for adopting a One Health perspective. To me, the GDB major means looking outside of the box for solutions to our problems and considering every factor, even those that may not be in plain sight. The ability to explore my interests through personally curated restricted electives has been incredibly rewarding, as it has allowed me to dive deeper into topics I am passionate about, including infectious diseases, ecology, and social determinants of healthThe information that I have learned has deepened my commitment to addressing health inequities in underserved communities here and around the world. Meaningful experiences during my time here at Davis have been volunteering with Imani Clinic, a student-run clinic that serves marginalized populations in Sacramento, as well as getting involved in biomedical research with the California National Primate Research Center (CNPRC). These opportunities have further solidified my interest in using medicine and research to make a difference.

The GDB program has truly been transformative for me, thanks to the amazing advising team and their constant guidance and encouragement. They’ve been instrumental in helping me navigate my academic journey and pursue my goals. Additionally, the program’s incredible opportunities and resources, such as research openings, internships, and events, have allowed me to grow both academically and professionally. After graduation, I plan to pursue an MD/PhD, focusing on infectious diseases, immunology, and global health. I am so grateful to be part of such a supportive and inspiring community that has prepared me to make a meaningful impact in the field of health."
