My name is Sonia Nezami, and I graduated in June 2023 from UC Davis with a major in Global Disease Biology (GDB). Throughout my time at UCD, I developed a comprehensive understanding of health through the One Health approach, which emphasizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. This perspective has profoundly shaped my aspirations and prepared me for a career as a Physician Assistant (PA). My education in GDB provided me with a strong foundation in both the scientific and empathetic aspects of healthcare, which I now apply in my current roles.

 

Currently, I am gaining invaluable clinical experience at Sutter Health Hospital in the Ophthalmology Clinic, where I am dedicated to providing patient care and honing my clinical skills. Additionally, I volunteer at a local hospice clinic, offering companionship and support to patients during a challenging phase of their lives. These experiences have allowed me to directly implement the holistic and compassionate approach to health that I learned in the GDB program. Post-graduation, the knowledge and skills acquired from my major have been instrumental in helping me achieve my goals and one day becoming a great PA.
