November Student of the Month: Peyton Yang
Hey everyone!! My name is Peyton, a third-year GDB major from Fremont, CA. I originally came to UC Davis as an undeclared BioSci major, but after learning about GDB’s focus on the One Health model and how human, animal, and environmental health are all connected, I switched as soon as possible. I couldn’t decide which field I liked most, and GDB let me explore all of them. I’m currently an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Lisa Baik’s lab studying the sensory system of Aedes albopictus mosquitoes and how that knowledge can be used in vector-borne disease prevention. Outside the lab, I’m a rock climbing guide with UC Davis Outdoor Adventures and serve as the Women’s Health Co-Chair for the Knights Landing One Health Clinic.
I’m really grateful I found GDB because it’s helped me tie together my interests in infectious and vector-borne diseases through classes, research, and community health work. GDB showed me how connected everything is, and that’s completely changed how I think about health. I’m still exploring future career goals, but possibly as a physician or PA who brings a One Health and evidence-based perspective to patient care.
