Paola Vidal-Espinoza

October 2020 GDB Student of the Month: Paola Vidal-Espinoza

My name is Paola Vidal-Espinoza and I am a first-generation student graduating this Fall. As a first-gen, like many others, I was really lost and had a hard time finding where I belonged. I switched my major three times before finally finding my fit as GDB. I am really proud to be a part of a college and major that emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to solving our world’s health challenges. I am grateful for the opportunities GDB has provided that have helped me in finding my voice. Having the opportunity to conduct research both in the US and abroad in Peru and working directly with communities as a medical assistant and former clinical advocate, GDB has truly solidified my motivations to pursue global health. With my GDB degree, I hope to be able to serve the Latino community and all other minorities that are often overlooked. Beyond UC Davis, I plan on continuing to work as a medical assistant while I prepare my application to apply to medical school this upcoming year.
