December Student of the Month: Izzy Ilardi

My name is Izzy Ilardi, and I am a third-year student in the Global Disease Biology program from Wyckoff, New Jersey. Since transferring to UC Davis as a second-year student, I have become deeply engaged with the GDB program and the many enriching opportunities it offers. Through my studies, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of One Health, which has significantly informed my research pursuits and extracurricular activities.

In the GDB program, I have developed a rigorous foundation in the science of disease, along with a nuanced understanding of the social and societal implications of health challenges. Currently, I am conducting research in the Denicol Lab, where I am investigating age-related changes in DNA methylation in the ovaries of mice, aiming to deepen my understanding of reproductive endocrinology. Additionally, I am a student volunteer with the Willow Clinic, a student-run medical clinic providing free healthcare and outreach to Sacramento’s unhoused community. I also work as a general chemistry tutor with the Academic Assistance and Tutoring Center.

Looking ahead, my goal is to attend medical school and pursue a career as a physician. I am extremely grateful for the invaluable support of GDB professors and advisors, who have equipped me with a strong academic and practical foundation that will guide me in my future career.
