March Student of the Month: Emma Kraft

My name is Emma and I’m a 3rd year GDB major! To me, this major means changing your perspective to see the interwoven aspects of health. I love how customizable GDB is as the restrictive electives allow us to specify our interests and look at disease from so many different angles. The GDB curriculum has given me an interdisciplinary understanding of disease as well as a solid foundation in biology that will help me contribute to improving our society’s health issues.

I am also grateful to have gained research experience in the Siddique Lab studying plant parasitic nematodes and their effects on crop yields and food security. Partaking in research as an undergraduate was not something I imagined myself being able to do but being a part of GDB helped make that into a reality for me. After graduating, I hope to either join the healthcare field as a nurse or PA or go into research. Although I am not sure what I want to do post grad, I feel equipped for whatever I decide thanks to the knowledge, experience, and confidence GDB has instilled in me.
