May 2023 GDB Student of the Month: Curtis Marriott

My name is Curtis Marriott. I am 4th year Global Disease Biology Student. I enjoy cycling, camping and river rafting. My favorite food is Middle Eastern food. I am currently engaged in research in the Pharmacological Depart at UC Davis. This involves the identification of novel vascular smooth muscle channel, pertinent to Hypertension under the postdoctoral mentorship of Dr. Victor Alejandro Flores, and spatiotemporal calcium dynamics using fluoroscopy examining the ryanodine receptors of the vasculature by Prof. Manuel Navedo. I am also a member of the UC Davis Pharmacology club. I am excited to be a Global Biology disease Major because it affords me the opportunity of having a Global ambassadorship mindset to invest in the education, and mentorship that is becoming essential acontinued diversification of this country. The cultural diversity of the World intrigues me and it is my desire one day to work for Médecins Sans Frontières as a medical doctor. I have been on student mission trips to Mexico, as a partial interpreter and medical and dental clinical aid. I am a current EMT personnel and a CERT volunteer for Sacramento City.
