November Student of the Month: David Froman

I am interested in health and medicine as a whole which is something
that has guided my journey at UC Davis. My interest in the Global
Disease Biology program began when I learned what the One Health model
is and how it serves to provide a holistic view of human, animal, and
environmental health. Currently, I am in my senior year at UC Davis,
and have had an amazing adventure thus far to say the least. Being a
transfer student made my junior year tough at the onset as I was
taking upper division courses in a university that I had little to no
familiarity with, but nonetheless I managed to end out my junior year
having become part of a research group studying the health and disease
resilience of poultry in the interest of sustaining this important
food source for generations to come as well as having become a medical
volunteer for the Knight's Landing One Health Center among other
achievements.

Through all of this though, time has flown by and something that made
the whole experience much more memorable was my exploration of the One
Health model. I believe that what makes Global Disease Biology so
special to me is the opportunity of having a bipartisan focus on
viewing interactions between human and animal health as these fields
are the pinnacle of my future career goals. Starting out at UC Davis,
I was certain that I wanted to pursue medical school to become a
doctor after finishing my undergraduate education, but as I've
explored the many potential opportunities and the close
interrelatedness of human and animal health I have become more drawn
to the thought of pursuing one of my life's earlier passions of
embarking on the journey to become a veterinarian after I graduate.
Ultimately, it's still too soon to tell which side of the healthcare
coin I will land on in my career, but I feel that the most invaluable
experience that the Global Disease Biology major offers is the
opportunity to remain interested in both fields and truly navigate my
passions for health and medicine as a whole.
