October 2022 GDB Student of the Month: Moriah Shih
Hello everyone! My name is Moriah Shih (she/her/hers) and I am a fourth year Global Disease Biology major. I am currently the President of VN CARES, a student run clinic serving the underserved Vietnamese American population through free clinical services, cancer screenings, and health education and resources. I am also part of the Navigators, a Christian fellowship on campus, and have helped host English conversation hours and been a part of the UC Davis Pal Program. I am also a part of the Hess lab, where I worked on my GDB practicum.
The diversity of information and interests we can pursue through GDB allowed me to explore multiple aspects of the STEM field and acquire an interest in global affairs. I am grateful for the flexibility within the major, which has allowed me to develop a better idea of what I want to do in the future. After I graduate, I plan on potentially participating in the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program in Taiwan, and also applying to medical school. GDB has taught me how to be a scholar that cares about healthcare inside and outside of a clinical setting, and I am excited to use what I have learned in my future career goals.
